Nourishing the Body
Feeding the Soul
The Berkshire Food Project prepares 200 hundred meals each day, in a span of about 3 hours. We wouldn’t be able to do it without the caring individuals who donate their time to our organization. Most of our volunteers donate their time on a weekly basis, in 2023 volunteers donated over 6,000 hours to Berkshire Food Project.
Our volunteer opportunities are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday to Friday at our organization. Volunteer duties include, but are not limited to meal preparation, cooking, preparing the dining room for our meal, serving our meal, dishwashing and assisting with clean up after our meal. TESTIMONIALS
“I love volunteering at Berkshire Food Project! What started out as a desire to give back to our community in my retirement has turned into so much more! Being surrounded by so many volunteers, who I now consider friends, has been so rewarding. I look forward every week to spending time with both the other volunteers and the many familiar guests who come in on a regular basis!” –Deb Wooley
“There’s always an upbeat atmosphere at the Food Project, and the volunteers really care about creating something that people will enjoy every day. It’s a friendly, positive place.”–Mark Brandriss
“I retired in November of 2023 and knew I wanted to do some volunteer work. I was aware of the Berkshire Food Project and spoke to the Executive Director Stephanie about volunteering. I felt that helping with the actual meal preparation and serving the meals was a great way to serve the North Adams community. After six months of working with the project I knew I wasn’t wrong!!! The staff and volunteers are wonderful and it feels like a family working there. The opportunity to interact and get to know the guests coming for meals is a wonderful experience. I am so glad I am able to be part of the food project and just wish I could do more!” –John Newman
“I’ve been volunteering here for 6 years. The fellow volunteers and the community members who take advantage of the project make it a rewarding experience.”–Janet Green

“Volunteering at the Food Project is a wonderful and very humbling experience. It made me appreciate things we take for granted. I am honored to be a part of such a great organization.” Ann Romaniak
"I have volunteered in many organizations for many causes in my adult life. Since retiring 14 years ago, I’ve been able to increase those opportunities. Volunteering has been the vehicle that has provided me purpose, a way to pay back for the good fortune I’ve been blessed with in life.
There are not many volunteering opportunities that I haven’t enjoyed and benefitted from, but volunteering with the Berkshire Food Project has been unique. The instant camaraderie and friendships of working along side a diverse group of individuals from all backgrounds in life is unsurpassed! The daily reward of helping those we serve is the most fulfilling” –Bruce Shepley
“I started as a board member back in 2016 and joined the "crew' to understand what we were about. I stepped down from the Board but have continued helping every week since then - excepting for COVID. Helping feels to directly accomplish something worthwhile and the camaraderie among other volunteers is frosting on the cake.” –Tom Leamon
